Family Foodways
Keep Growing Detroit’s Farm celebrates the power of food, culture, and community. Our Family Foodways programming and gardens help us honor the cultural roots of KGD staff members. Together, garden resource program members and visitors learn about plants from Native American ancestry, African diaspora, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Italy, African American foodways, Jamaica, Sweden and the Philippines by walking through beds representing each heritage. These plants weren’t just beautiful and in the case of the gourds, show-stopping—they sparked conversations about family, migration, seed saving and memory.
Through cultural classes this season, we’ll bring those stories to the table. Hope you join us!
