Beating Blight Tickets: Policy Lessons for Farmers

  • Clark Park Recreation Center 1130 Clark Avenue Detroit, Michigan, 48209 United States (map)

Growing food in Detroit means navigating more than soil, seeds, and weather. Join Keep Growing Detroit and the Detroit Office of Sustainability for an interactive workshop focused on the rights, responsibilities, and policies that impact gardeners and farmers across the city.

Together, we'll explore design, maintenance, and permitting requirements for urban gardens and farms, discuss common causes of blight tickets and citations, and review steps growers can take to avoid enforcement issues before they arise.

We'll also take a closer look at permitting processes, fees, and city requirements, and discuss what to do if you receive a citation or blight ticket. Participants will hear directly from growers with lived experience navigating permitting and blight processes and have an opportunity to ask questions and learn from one another.
