What do you do when the garden gives you more than you can eat right now? Preserve it!
Join us for a hands-on Family Foodways Preservation Class with Djenaba Ali, founder of Harvest Jar, and learn practical ways to extend the life of your garden harvest and enjoy locally grown food long after the growing season ends.
Our featured recipe will be Tomato Curry Preserves, a flavorful combination of tomatoes, onion, lemon, curry spices, and a little heat. Djenaba will walk us through the water-bath canning process from start to finish, including preparing jars, safely filling and processing them, getting a good seal, and properly storing your finished preserves.
But canning isn't the only way to save the harvest! We'll also explore simple pickling and freezing techniques with Rosebud and talk about how to decide which preservation method works best for different vegetables and herbs.
Whether your garden is overflowing, you shop at local farmers' markets, or you simply want to waste less food, you'll leave with skills and ideas you can use in your own kitchen.
Come ready to learn, taste, preserve, and take a little bit of the growing season home with you!
